Jay cares for Lava
Jay takes care of Lava, de-fleaing him with kerosene, de-maggoting him with chewing tobacco. He was fed withMREs (Meals Ready to Eat). -
A plan is set for Lava
After talking to various people, Jay finally starts thinking of plans to get Lava back to the USA. Hammond puts Lava on a special convoy to Baghdad, where NPR reporter Anne Garrels, who once interviewed Kopelman in the compound where Lava was found, would pick him up and be cared for until she left, and she give Lava to another reporter who agreed to care for Lava until he left. -
Jay is transferred
He (Jay) gives lava to injured Seargent Matt Hammond, who plays with, gives him a crate, feds him, and all together cares for him while Jay is transferred to another base -
The first attempt
Bonnie Buckley recieves Jay's letter to help. However, it will be hard to get Lava to Jordan from Iraq, because there will be two border checks. Why? there will be two because No Man's Land is in between. -
Sam
Anne gets an Iraqiwho Jay names Sam, to protect his identity, to take care of Lava while she goes out to the streets to collect stories. Only he did more than that. In fact, he washed him, made him a collar, even got him dog biuscits (a rarety), and even Lava's vaccination papers. Plus, Sam taught Lava how to play soccer. -
Going home, with a whole lot of hope
Jay goes home, but first he goes to Shannon, Ireland. In this chapter, he talks about the final plan Vohne Liche Kennels talked about. Lava would go with the Kennel as they leave Baghdad. -
The Email
John Van Zante emails Jay with an email that made break into tears. The email said that Lava was officially out of Baghdad. He was on a plane to Chicago to finally be an American dog. -
Freedom!
After many failed atempts, Lava gets to John Van Zante, with many calls, and the help of Iams, Delta Airlines, and a security dog company.He flew from Baghdad to Chicago, then from Chicago to California. Jay Kopelman flew from Iraq to Ireland, then California. -
