    Henry IV
    King Henry was baptized as a Catholic but raised as a protestant.He was the target of at least 12 assassination attempts and ended the French Wars of Religion. "As a Huguenot, Henry was involved in the French Wars of Religion, barely escaping assassination in the St. Bartholomew's Day massacre, and later led Protestant forces against the royal army."
  • Louis XIII

    Louis XIII
    Louis XIII's mother was a member of the Medici family and acted as regent during Louis's minority. Louis took power over France by exiling his mother and executing all her Italian followers. He married when he was only 14 years old. He became king when he was a toddler. Louis organised the development and administration of New France, expanding its settlements westward along the Saint Lawrence River from Quebec City to Montreal.

    He sought to eliminate remnants of feudalism. He successfully increased the influence of the crown and its authority over the church and aristocracy. he became king at five years old and created the Royal Academy of Music.

    He was king for 64 years and became king at 5 years old. Louis XIV had made a will that said that the nation was to be governed by a Regency Council made up of fourteen members until the new king reached the age of majority. In 1757 he was stabbed in an assassination attempt. During his reign, Louis returned the Austrian Netherlands; this territory was won at the Battle of Fontenoy of 1745 but given back to Austria by the terms of the Treaty of Aix-la-Chapelle of 1748.     He secretly sent supplies, ammunition and guns from 1776, to America, and signed a formal Treaty of Alliance in early 1778, and go to war with Britain.Louis was officially arrested on 13 August 1792, and sent to a prison. On 21 September, the National Assembly declared France to be a Republic and abolished the Monarchy. Louis was stripped of all of his titles and honors. He attempted to abolish serfdom, known as Louis Capet.
