Stalin Gained Power because he led strikes and riots for the Bolsheviks under Lenin and became one of Lenin’s top leaders. Then the Russian Revolution in 1917 took place and Lenin and the Bolsheviks overthrew the government. Stalin became a major leader in Lenin’s government. -
Berlin Airlift
In 1948, the cold war threatened to become a real war in Berlin Germany. The Soviets set up a blockade so the people of Berlin had no food, fuel, or other necessary supplies. Then more than a year, American and British planes brought tons of food and fuel to the people of Berlin. -
Korean War
After WWII, the Soviets took over the northern half of Korea while Americans occupied South Korea. On June 25, 1950, Communist troops crossed the border into South Korea. The United Nations sent soldiers to help South Korea and the Chinese and Soviet Union helped North Korea . -
Fall of Berlin Wall
In 1989, the people of east germany were given freedom to travel, so thousands of Germans rushed to the berlin wall and began to break it down. Over 70% of the republic was controlled by Serbian forces, led by Milosevic, who began cleansing. Bosnian Muslims were forced out of their homes and over 2 million were left homeless and 250,000 were killed before a treaty was signed.
