  • Meeting of the Estates General

    Meeting of the Estates General
    The meeting of the Estates General was on May 5th, 1789. Many people from each estate would come vote and talk about France's financial crisis. Although, as they voted they found out that the voting system was unfair. It was unfair because normally the First and Second Estate would vote together, overruling the Third Estate no matter what, making the Third Estate very upset.
  • The Tennis Court Oath

    The Tennis Court Oath
    The Third Estate formed the National Assembly who could not meet where they normally do, due to the large number of guards and locks on the doors. So, to fit everyone there they went to a tennis court. They said that they would not leave until they got a new constitution. King Louis XVI finally gave in and the French Revolution had begun.

    The Storming of the Bastille
    On July 14th, 1789 over 800 Parisians fled around the Bastille. The Bastille was a prison where any weapons were believed to be stored. There suddenly was open fire in the crowd and a battle broke out. This was very important to France and they still celebrate this day at Bastille Day.

    The Acceptance and Constitution of 1791

    As the Tennis Court Oath made King Louis XVI give in, he later accepted the constitution in 1790. The constitution was produced in 1791 after a long and tiring process. In the end, the constitution stated a constitutional monarchy and included several ideas from all around.

  • The Champ de Mars Massacre

    The Champ de Mars Massacre
    During the attempt that failed of Louis XVI's flee of Paris many people became angry and called for the elimination of the monarchy. With people on both sides of the argument, it created the republican state. They collected petitions but with the city already struggling in economic troubles the Commune was worried it would start unrest between the citizens. So, the Commune called in the National Guard and it ended up killing as many as 50 people.

    The French Declares War on Austria
    On this day, the French Revolution had started. Austria and Prussia had allied and the French were falling fast in the beginning. But, the French stayed strong because they wanted they knew their government could be easily beaten by other powers. They wanted to unify the country and they thought war was the answer.
  • Storming of the Tuileries Place

    Storming of the Tuileries Place
    Another attack of a royal symbol, this time the home of the King. The people led the attack and marched on. They soon took Louis XVI and arrested him and took him into custody. Several of his guards were killed by the rest of the mob and the King was gone.

    The Reign of Terror was a time of violence that occurred for a while in the French Revolution. The French Revolution started political unrest between the Girondins and the Jacobins. Many were killed and it began a very scary time.
  • Execution of Louis XVI

    Execution of Louis XVI
    After King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette fled, many people began to talk. He was declared guilty for conspiracy with foreign powers and was sentenced to death. At his trial they he was proven guilty after they discovered King Louis XVI's tie's with other countries. He was then executed by guillotine.

    The Constituion of 1795
    Also known as the Constitution of Year III, on August 22nd, 1795 the Constitution of 1795 was established. It was created to have a more liberal republic and it talked on the payment of taxes by the people. With these changes the government could now reestablish it's power.
