  • 1793 BCE

    Queen is Executed

    Queen is Executed
    Queen Marie Antoinette was tried in court by the Committee of Public Safety. On October 16th Marie was declared guilty. She was to be killed at the guillotine.
  • Meeting of the Estates-General

    Meeting of the Estates-General
    Louis XVI summoned the Estates General. He had to summon them because of the spread of the bread riots and the nobles denounced royal tyranny. The Third Estate was angry they had no impact in the votes and made a National Assembly.
  • Tennis Court Oath

    Tennis Court Oath
    The Estates Generals made the National Assembly but was locked out of there regular meeting place at the Versailles. They moved to a indoor tennis court. That was where the Tennis Court Oath was taken. They pledged not to leave until a new Constitution was made. The king gave in when people from the First and Second Estates joined them.
  • Storming of the Bastille

    Storming of the Bastille
    On July 14, 1789 there was more than 800 Parisians outside of the Bastille demanding weapons believed to be stored there. The Bastille was a medieval fortress used as a prison. The storming of the Bastille quickly became a symbol of the French Revolution.
  • Flight to Varennes

    Flight to Varennes
    The Royal family including King Louis XVI and Queen Marie Antoinette tried to get out of France. They were arrested after being recognized. There attempt to escape untimely led to his execution in 1793.
  • New Constitution

    New Constitution
    King Louis XVI properly signs the new constitution. It was created by the National Assembly. It defined the authority and power of the new government.
  • War

    War
    France confirm war against Austria. France worried that Austria was going to restore King Louis XVI's throne. That meant that they had to protect their republic.
  • National Convention

    National Convention
    The national convention followed the suspension of the monarchy. It was elected by a broad franchise of people. It had gained much of its control over policy committees most importantly the Committee of Public Saftey.
  • Reign of Terror

    Reign of Terror
    It went from September 5th, 1793 to July 27, 1794. The Reign of terror begins as Robespirre, declares that terror will be the "order of the day". It was also to take harsh measures against those suspected of being enemies.
  • Robespierre is Executed

    Robespierre is Executed
    Robespierre was executed on July 28, 1794. He was killed at the guillotine. Robespierre was killed without trial.
