The people of Paris storm Bastille, a much hated prison that symbolized autocratic rule. The Revolution had begun. -

The Great Fear
The Great fear- peasants were fearful that the Nobles were hiring outlaws to terrorize them. Peasants noted stormed Versailles adn demanded that Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette come to Paris. -
Legislative Assembly takes over
National assembly disbanded so the new Legislative Assembly can take over. Creates a constitutional monarchy: strips power from the king and gave the assembly the power to create French law. -

The National Convention ablishes the monarchy and declares France a republlic. All adult male citizens are granted the right to vote and hole offive. Women not igven the same rights. -

Louis is no longer king, the radical Jacobins tried Louis for treason and found him guilty. He is sentenced to death. -

Great Britian, Holland, and Spain join Prussia and Austria and fighting France. The National Assmebly drafts 300,000 French citizens. -
Maximilien Robespierre
Revolution leader Maximilen Robespierre sets out to gather power into hsi own hands. He becomes the leader of the commitee of public safety. He decides who should be considered on enemy of the republic. The commitee had people tried and executed in the same day. -
Robespierre
Robespierre governed France nearly as a dicator. This period became known as the reign of terror. Aprox. 3,000 people were executed in Paris, and as many as 40,000 were fillled all together. -

Marie Antionette is executed. Revolutionary courts declare death sentences on thosethat challenge Robespierre. -

The National Commitee turns on Robespoerre, claming that he is a Tyrant. He is eecuted on July 25. -
