    American Revolution Begins
    Also known as the American Revolutionary War. The American revolution was a conflict between Great Britain and the 13 American colonies.
  • Louis XVI crowned King of France

    Louis XVI crowned King of France
    After Louis's grandfather's death, he became King of France. In 1774 Louis assumed the title "King of France ans Navarre" and used until 1791 when he assumed the title of "King of the French.
  • Calling of the Estates-General

    Louis XVI assembled all three estates to discuss raising taxes for the third estate. The First Estate was the clergy, the Second Estate is the nobility, and the Third Estate is the rest of the french population.

    Also known as The October March, it was a march of marketplace women who rioted over the high price and scarcity of bread. It quickly grew into mobs of thousands including the market women's various allies.

    Revolutionaries wanted war because they thought war would unify the country and had ideas they wanted to share to the revolution across Europe. Even though France did bad at first, France's armies progressed throughout the war.

    The National Convention was an assembly that governed France from September 20, 1792, until October 26, 1795, during the most critical period of the French Revolution. It was created to overthrow the monarchy.
  • Louis XVI is executed

    Louis XVI is executed
    After being convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers, Louis XIV was sentenced to death by the National Convention. He was executed by the guillotine.

    The Reign of Terror lasted from September 1793 until the fall of Robespierre in 1794. The Reign of Terrors purpose was to rid France of anyone who didn't approve of the Revolution and to protect France from foreign invaders.

    It was a reaction to the Reign of Terror after the execution of Maximilien de Robespierre. The moderates rose to take control, and they saw no need for the return of the Monarchy.

    Napoleon engineered a coup in November 1799 and became First Consul of the Republic. His public approval and his enthusiasm inspired him to go further, and later became the first Emperor of the French.

    Napoleon went to invade Russia in the winter resulting in the Battle of Waterloo. Napoleon was defeated which led to his abdication and exile.
