Storming of the bastille
The bastille was a state prison on the east side of Paris. A mob of revolutionary’s assembled to demand the ammunition it held. When the prison governor refused to give in to their demands a battle ensued. The governor was seized and killed, and his head was carried round the streets on a spike. This symbolized the start of the French Revolution. The storming of the bastille is still celebrated in France with a national holiday every year. -

Women’s march on Versailles
On the morning of October 5, 1989, in an eastern section of Paris, a young woman fed up with the shortage of bread banged a drum beginning a march among revolutionary women. The numbers grew as the march went on, marchers armed with pitchforks and torches. It culminated at the city hall of Paris with crowds in the thousands demanding bread. -
The National Assembly abolishes the nobility
The assembly passed the decree that stated all French citizens must use their family’s surname. No longer shall people be addressed by Monseigneur. -

Parisians storm Tuileries palace end’s King Louis’ power
The Paris revolutionary’s stormed the palace and captured the king. This affectively ended the monarchy in France. -
French Republic proclaimed
The Convention became the new government of France, and it abolished the monarchy and declared a republic. -
King Louis executed
King Louis was executed by the guillotine at the Place de la Révolution in Paris. The National Convention had convicted the king in a near-unanimous vote and condemned him to death by a simple majority. -
