Call of the Estate General
France was losing a lot of money and was on the edge of bankruptcy because of outrageous spending of King Louis XV. His poor economic decisions led up to the call of the French Monarch to the Estate General to order a new land tax levy. The Estate General was made up of the clergy, the middle class and the lower class citizens. -
Tennis Court Oath
Because the National Assembly, led by Honore Gabriel Riqueti, was afraid that a royal attack by King Louis XVI was imminent, they met in an indoor tennis court where they took an oath "not to separate, and to reassemble wherever circumstances require, until the constitution of the kingdom is established." This oath will become important in the revolution as the Third Estate would continue to protest to have more representation. -
Storming of the Bastille
During the French Revolution, the Bastille, a prison symbolic of power, was attacked by an angry and aggressive mob. The mob came for the huge ammunition storages found inside the prison. The governor was not complying with them, so they violently killed him an put his head on a spike for the public to see. -
Flight to Varennes
The king realized that because of the revolution, his family was in danger. So the royal family decided to flee to Varennes. They got caught when they arrived at Varennes. -
Champ de Mars Massacre
The citizens of France did not like the idea that the National Constituent Assembly decided to keep King Louis XVI as King. This led to a massacre. -
The First invasion of the Tuileries
The people of Paris laid a siege on the Tuileries. The Tuileries was known as the official home of King Louis XVI. This is one of the Revolutionary turning points. -
Overthrow of the monarchy
This is the day in which Louis XVI was found guilty of treason. Because of this, the French revolutionaries overthrew the monarchy. -
Execution of the King
The king was found guilty of treason so the guillotine executed him on this day. The revolutionaries made Marie Antoinetter watch as the king lost his head. -

This period of 6months was when most of the executions were done. It started after the execution of King Louis. The first person executed during this time was the king's wife. -
Execution of the Queen
King Louis' wife was executed in this day. She was the first execution during the Reign of Terror.
