Louis XVI was a poor leader and the third estate was treated unfairly, and France was in debt from the american revolution. So the french people overthrow the monarchy. -

Storming of the Bastille
The French commoners attacked Bastille to save the National Assembly from King Louise's army and, because Bastille represented power of the king. Also the people of France were looking for gunpowder and wanted to free debteter's in jail. -

The new constitution placed the power in the upper middle class. It made for a legislature and executive body. -
