    Tennis Court Oath
    They were going to originally meet in the Hall of Versailles, but the king blocked it off, so then they went to a near indoor tennis court. They took and oath that technically said they were not going to move until they made a new French Constitution. They eventually force the oath onto the king.
  • Bastille Day

    Bastille Day
    Troops invaded the Bastille on July 14. They were trying to free the prisoners in the Bastille. That ended in a battle where lots were killed.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen

    Declaration of the Rights of Man and of the Citizen
    The French came together and had a National Assembly where they created rights for the citizens. Some of them being rights of religion and power. All men had to apply to these rights but it never said anything about women or slavery.

    A huge group of women marched on the streets of Paris because they needed bread at a fair price for their families. As they were marching, they got more and more people to join. They marched for 6 hours in the pouring rain until they got to see the king.

    In France, they tried to restructure the Roman Catholic Church. This had many Catholics turn against the Revolution. They wanted to cut down bishops from 135 to 83.
  • Flight to Varennes

    Flight to Varennes
    The Flight to Varennes is a failed attempt for the royalty to escape Paris. They had no more faith in the revolution so they decided to flee. They got caught by a local postmaster and got rushed back to Paris.
  • Execution of King Louis XVI

    Execution of King Louis XVI
    King Louis XVI was executed by a guillotine on January 21, 1793. He was found guilty by the National Assembly and condemned to death. Then Revolutionary radicals took control of the government.
  • Reign of Terror

    It was ruled by a group named the Committee of Public Safety. They thought it was a good idea to make "Terror" a government policy. If somebody was accused of something, they were pretty much were guilty, and more than likely executed. More the 17,000 people were executed and around 200,000 arrested. Lots also died in prison or got beaten to death in the streets.

    Execution of Marie Antoinette
    She got executed about 9 months after King Louis XVI. She was one of the first people executed in the Terror. She was executed by the guillotine.
  • The Directory

    The Directory
    The Directory ruled France during the "Constitution of Year III". They always moved form crisis to crisis which made most people mad. It had lots of corruption but it was way better than the Reign of Terror.
