    The Directory was formed after the Reign of Terror ended. A new constitution was put in place. The Directory promoted middle class interests and caused financial and food shortages. This also led to the rise of Napoleon.

    After Napoleon died, France lost power. However, they left behind an enormous legacy. Absolutism ended and peasants were allowed to own land. Also, France lived by enlightenment ideas.
