    The Third Estate decided to break apart from the rest. They created their own constitution calling themselves the National Assembly.

  • Storming of the Bastille

    Prison was attacked by an angry mob. The prisoners escaped.

  • Women's March on Versailles

    Women marched to Versailles because they were mad about the food shortage. The King retreated to Paris.

  • France Declares War on Austria

    The French declared war on Austria to unify the country. They also wanted the revolution ideas to spread.

  • Execution of Louis XVI

    Louis XVI was killed via guillotine for treason. His death ended the monarch and allowed the French Revolution to truly begin.

  • Reign of Terror Ends

    To put fear into the civilians of France and to protect the revolution against “enemies.” 40,000 people were executed.

  • Napoleon Takes Power

    Napoleon overthrows the Directory. He ends the French Revolution.

  • Napoleon Exiled to Elba

    After the war in Russia, Napoleon was exiled to Elba. They allowed him to be in charge of the small island. He became depressed.

    Napoleon’s army attacked British and Prussian armies. The attack was unsuccessful and Napoleon’s army lost.

    Series of revolts against the European monarchies. The countries wanted to continue with the ideas of the French Revolution.
