they would come and meet when the king needed help making a decision. the 1st and 2nd estate would team up making it unfair to the third. the third was 90% of the population so they weren't happy. -
national assembly
the third estate wanted them to take votes by head count because they were 90% of the population. the king and 1st & 2nd estates said no. they then left the estates and started their own called the national assembly so they could get their way. -
tennis court oath
after they made the national assembly they would meet regularly at this place in Versailles . the king decided to lock them out and thought that would solve the problem. they then just met up at a public indoor tennis court. they took an oath called the tennis court oath and pledged to stay there until France had a new constitution. the king eventually gave up and the 1st & 2nd estates joined them. -
fall of Bastille
the fall of Bastille was a violent attack on the government. this attack signaled the start of the french revolution. the third estate wanted more say in the government so they felt like they needed to attack. the first attacked the hotel des invalides and got muskets but had no gun powder. they stormed the Bastille for gun powder on July 14. -
surrender of feudal rights
the surrender of feudal rights is when the national assembly wanted to abolish feudalism. they wanted to abolish the old rules and tax privileges that were left over. they announced on august 4th that the "national assembly abolishes the feudal system entirely." they said this but nothing major happened until 1790. -
declaration of the rights of man
this document stated that all men were equal under law. woman and children were not affected by this this happened shortly after the surrender of feudal rights. -
royal family attempts to flee
king Louis XVI and his family attempt to flee France. they get caught at verannes. they get sent back and king Louis gets put on trial -
storming of tuileries palace
this was an important event for the third estate. they stormed through Paris and destroyed everything that had to do with monarchy. the national assembly suspended the monarchy powers. -
battle of valmy
first major victory by the army of France. the french defeat the Persians. Persian troop attempted to march into France. general Kellerman stopped the advance near the village of valmy. -
Louis xvi executed
he was executed the day after he was convicted of messing with foreign powers. he was sentenced to death by the French National Convention. he was executed by the guillotine.
