Tennis Court Oath
The French hierarchy had three estates. The First Estate was composed of the church/clergy, the Second Estate had the nobility, and the Third Estate was made up of everyone that didn't fit into the two prior Estates. Leading up to a meeting of the Estates-General on May 5, the Third Estate requested equal representation but were denied. The Third Estate moved to a tennis court and vowed to remain there until France was given a true constitution.
