Louis XVI was crowned the king of France after the death of his father. He was the last king before the French Revolution. -
Start of the American Revolution
By 1775 tensions grew to the max between Great Britain and the 13 colonies. In Massachusetts a militia was being formed. Britain marched in to meet 77 minute men and over 300 British soldiers were killed. -
Calling of the Estates
This was a meeting between between all 3 estates the Clergy, Nobility, and the Peasants. This was a meeting for the third estate to finally voice their problem to King Louis XVI. The king didn't really listen to their problems and continued like normal. -
Formation of the National Assembly
During the French Revolution this assembly consisted of people from the third estate. It created a constitution to have equal rights for all of man. -
Tennis Court Oath
People of the third estate met up at a tennis court in the Palace of Versailles. They all made an oath to not disband or give up until their demands are met by the upper classes. -
Attack on Bastille
The great Bastille prison was stormed by peasants on the afternoon of July 14, 1789. The storming of the prison was a sign of power to the third estate. -
Women's March on Versailles
Women of the third estate began to riot over the high prices and scarcity of bread. Soon the riots stormed armories and went to the Palace of Versailles. They successfully besieged the palace and forced King Luis to meet their demands and leave. -
War with Austria
Revolutionaries wanted to start war with Austria, because they wanted all of Europe to feel the sense of Revolution. They also thought it would unify the country itself. -
Formation of the National Convention
The first republic government formed in France, abandoning the monarchy. First assembly elected without a distinction of class. -
Execution of Luis XVI
After being the leader of France and pretty much running the economy into the ground King Louis XVI was convicted of conspiracy with foreign powers. King Louis was secretly asking other countries to invade France. He was executed by guillotine. -
The Reign of Terror
The Reign of Terror was a period of time during the revolution that was pretty much a civil war between the third estates and higher classes. It was a tie where governments were created and destroyed and a lot of executions happened with the guillotine. -
The Thermidorian Reaction
This was a small, conservative, and republic government created by the people after the execution of Robespierre. This government was not very popular, because of the purge of Jacobin and the lack of a good leader. -
Formation of the Directory
A five member committee created to help keep the government in check. They were always at war with countries and drained the treasury. -
Takeover by Napoleon
Napoleon overthrew the government with a coup d'etat it was bloodless. He replaced the Directory with the consulate. -
Invasion of Russia
Napoleon started his invasion in the summer, but Russia is very large. The Russians kept retreating and it seemed he was going to when, but winter came and his men were very under prepared and Russia came back. -
Napoleon's Defeat at Waterloo
Napoleon was out played by Duke Wellington and Gebhard. After the loss of this battle he was removed as ruler of France and was exiled once again.
