The Third Estate names the National Assembly.
Emmanuel-Joseph Sieyès came up with the name, National Assembly. It was an assembly created by the Third Estate's representatives. It later gets replaced with the Legislative Assembly.
I think this was important since it seems to mark the beginning of the revolution. -
Third Estate takes the Tennis Court Oath
With the First and Second estates arguing over their roles in the governing of France, the Third Estate was not allowed to vote. So instead they met at a tennis court to make a vow to make a new constitution for the rights of the commoners.
This vow is what helped the moral of the revolution since this was their promise for change. -
Bastille Prison is overthrown.
Bernard-René Jordan de Launay received many barrels of gunpowder since he thought that his prison was a target. Parisians invaded the prison. Bernard-René Jordan de Launay surrendered but was killed by a mob.
The French have a holiday to celebrate this event so it must have been important. -
Louis XVI attempt to flee
Scared for his life, Louis wanted to leave the capital and move to the countryside where he thought people were still loyal to him. He headed north-east to Montmédy. On the way, someone noticed him since he his face was on a paper currency. He was caught along with his wife and returned to the capital
Because of this the National Assembly made France a republic and striped the King of his power. -
The Legislative Assembly is formed.
The Legislative Assembly replaced the National Constituent Assembly as the new governing body of France. They adopted the Declaration of the Rights of Man and Citizen. The majority of the kings' power was taken away because of this
With the King's power taken away the peope of France gained some more power. It did not solve all their problems though. -
September 20 - The National Convention is established
This was France’s third try for a national legislature. The National Convention ended up giving most of its power over to policies and committees. The one most people talk about is the Committee of Public Safety.
I think the National Convention was an important group since they ended up causing a lot of change by giving the Committee of Public Safety some control. -
The First French Republic is founded
The First French Republic voted to get rid of the monarchy and republic. They convicted Louis XVI for treason. They lasted until Napoleans' reign.
I think this was an important time because the French Rebublic was one of the first to reform the goverment during the french revolution. -
King Louis XVI's death.
There was evidence of King Louis XVI committing treason with Austria and other foreign nations. The National Convention tried him for treason. He was sentenced to death by the guillotine.
This execution was important because it is what showed the revolution coming to an end. -

The Reign of Terror
The reign of terror was a time period that lasted _ months. Anyone who was suspected to not be loyal to the revolution was executed. Robespierre said the terror will be the order of the day.
This was a huge part of the history because 17,000 were killed in less than a year. -
Napoleon overthrows the Directory. and becomes the ruler of France.
The Directory was increasingly becoming more corrupt. Napolean had many victories in battle. Napolean overthrew it and created the Consulate to be the new form of government.
I think this was important because this was a huge part of Napolean's rise to power.
