a French congress that originated in the medieval period and consisted of three estates. Storming the Bastille
There was a rumor going around that the king was planning a military coup to strike the National Assembly. The people decided to defend their city and marched into the Bastille prison for gunpowder, the governor refused them, and with that the people fought until the prison surrendered. Champ de mars massacre was an event when the citizens of France rallied against the decision of the National Constituent Assembly that King Louis XVI was still the king, even though he was under a constitution. On August 10th 1792, a little more than three years after their attack on the Bastille, the people of Paris laid siege to another royalist symbol. Declaration of the Republic and the Trial of Louis
The first act of the latter was to declare France as a republic on September 21, 1792. Meanwhile, the French military had halted the foreign invasion and pushed back the Austrians and Prussians. Louis was charged with treason. The vote at the end of the trial was unanimous, Louis was guilty. The vote on the death penalty was much closer but it passed. Execution of the King
This was the day that King Louis XVI was executed by the guillotine. The revolutionaries made Marie Antoinette watch as the King lost his head.
