  • A New King

    Comte de Provence becomes Louis XVIII.
  • Phase One: Formation of the National Guard

    Armed citizens form the National Guard, armed and with a population around 50,000.
  • Capture of Bastille

    The Bastille is captured by the National Guard.
  • Great Fear

    Citizens, specifically peasants, revolt all across France and invoke fear from the remainder of the population.
  • Declaration of the Rights of Man

    The National Assembly proclaims the rights of man and citizen, believing that neglect of the people has led to social unrest. One of its articles states that "men are born and remain free in equal rights."
  • Beginning of Starvation

    In Versaille, starving women and other citizens demand bread from the King, and are eventually chased away.
  • Assembly Crosses Religion

    The Constituent Assembly, otherwise known as the National Assembly, begins to take private property from the Church.
  • Supressing Religion

    Religious orders and vows are being suppressed.
  • End to Nobility

    Nobility and other titles are revoked.
  • Growing Starvation

    From January to March, food riots emerge across Paris.
  • Cowardly King

    Louis XVI is forcibly taken back to Paris after making an attempt to escape into Varennes.
  • Long Live the King

    In result to protests against the return of the King, the National Guard fires into the gathering crowds.
  • Fleeing Armies

    War in Austria is declared by France, but the armies flee as their enemies approach.
  • Capture of the King

    Tuilieres Palace is swarmed by the Jacobin masses - the Swiss Guard is easily defeated, and the King is imprisoned.
  • Riot of the Royalists

    In the Vendée, Royalists riot.
  • Phase Two: End to Monarchy

    Monarachy is abolished by the Convention appointed by the Legislative Assembly.
  • Death of the King

    A month and ten days since his trial, Lous XVI is executed.
  • War Lust

    War on Britain and Holland is declared.
  • The Cost of Hunger

    The price of bread is greatly increased.
  • Endless Rage

    From the 4th to the 5th, more riots emerge in Paris.

    Terror is started by the "Law of Suspects."

    Robespierre from the Committee of Public Safety proclaims a new religion (stated in the title).

    Roughly 2,750 civilians, mostly poor, are executed.

    Robespierre is arrested and executed by the Convention (alongside his 150 or so followers), and the Terror is over.
  • Phase Three: Return of Churches

    Churches are finally re-opened.

    In the South, from May to June, comes White Terror.
  • The Near Loss of a Future Dictator

    Napoleon is nearly killed by Royalists led by Gracchus Babeuf, who manages to fend them off.
  • Path to Dictatorship

    In favor of a dictatorship, the Convention breaks apart.
  • End to Babeuf

    Babeuf and his supporters, after being captured, commit suicide.
  • The Beginning of Dictatorship

    Napoleon officially becomes the Dictator after Directorate resigns in June, named "First Consul."
