King Louis XVI Called Estates General
King Louis Called the Estates General for the first time since 1614. -
Meeting of Estates General
The Meeting of the Estates General is held and the Third Estate wanted the vote to be taken by head rather then by order. This resulted to the Third Estate being locked out of the meeting. -
The National Assembly is formed.
The Third Estate met in a Tennis Court and the National Assembly was formed. The National Assembly swore by the Tennis Court Oath that they would not stop fighting until a new constitution for France was formed. -
The Fall of the Bastille
Bread prices kept being raised so on July 14 an angry mob attacked The Bastille, all of the prisoners were released out of the prison and the Governor's head was cut of and paraded around. The attack of the Bastille also bought on the formation of a new army for the people. Called the National Guard. -
Every body becomes "Citizen"
The National Assembly swept away most of the old constitution and all noble titles were declared obselute. Everybody was given the title "Citizen". -
The Declaration of Rights of Man and The Citizen
The Declaration was passed by the National Assembly and was similar to the America Declaration of Independence. It stated the basic Human rights that the government could not overlook. The declaration guarenteed freedom of thought, speech, religion, security and property. This put limits on the power of the goverment and it had a big impact on a lot of the peasants lives that never had any rights before. -
The women of Paris invade Versailles
People in France were starving and when the women of France heard that Marie Antoinnette might be hoarding bread they decided to march on Versailles and bring the Royal Family to live in Paris. They were succesfull in the invasion and made it into the Palace by attacking the guards. This had a big impact because it showed that the rebels had control over the Royal Family. -
Guillotine Comes into Light
On the 10th October JOseph-Ignace Guillotine presented his invention The Guillotine to the National Assembly. The Guillotine became the number 1 execution option for the French Revolution. Robespierre liked it because it was a quick, painless humane way of killing. -
Louis XVI is Arrested
Louis XVI sees that many aristocrats were departing for other countries and decides to try and flee France to get help. On June 20 he and his whole family disguised as peasants try to flee the country only to be recognized and arrested. This had a big imapct on the revolutution because now the people knew that the King could not be trusted. -
France declares war on Austria
France Declared war on Austria because they were worried that Marie Antoinnete's contacts would come invade and stop the revolution. France was also at war with many countries on the borders including England. This was a problem for France because they were trying to fight off multiple invaders and trying to keep control of the country. -
King Louis XVI is sentanced to the Guillotine
King Louis XVI was tried and found guilty of treason. And was sentanced to death by Guillotine. This marked the start of the Great Terror because the Guillotine never stopped killing after this kill. -
Jean-Paul Marat is murdered.
Jean-Paul Marat was the writer of the newspaper L'ami de peuple. He was an angry man and you could read it in his newspapers, he was one of the radical leaders of the revolution and was for all of the Killing during the Great Terror. He was murdered by Charlotte Corday in 1793. She believed that the killing had gone too far and then she was sent to the guillotine herself. Paul-Jean Marat became a martyr for the French Revolution. -
Jacques Danton is Guillotined.
Jacques Danton was one of the radical leaders of the revolution, he was against the monarcahy in every way and was for the guillotine. He was executed because he started to support the end of the reign of terror and the end of the killing. Robespierre sentanced him to the guillotine, and before he was killed Danton said that Robespierre would soon follow him to the guillotine. -
Robespierre rules with dictatorship
Once Danton was beheaded Robespierre ruled like a dictator. He was once opposed to the death penaltie but had now killed thousands of people. He modernizes France with the metric system and thenew revolutionary calender. -
The Reign of Terror Ends
The Reign of terror was a one year period where over 37,000 people were guillotined for objecting to the revolution. The people of France sighed a big sigh of relief when the killing stopped -
Robespierre is executed.
While Robespierre was condemning others he condemned himself. He was arrested and after a failed attempt of shootim himself he was guillotined. The Reign of Terror was over. The Directory replaced Robespierre's rule. -
The Fall of the Directory
The Directory was controlled by the Middle Class adn the new governement went back to some of the old ways before the revolution. Special Priveleges were given to people with money and peasants had no rights again. The fall was due to a man called Napolean Bonaparte who would call himself the Emperor of France.
