  • The First Navigation Act Passed By Parliament

    The essential act known as the First Navigation Act was passed in 1651 in the English Parliament. That was an important law aimed at increasing the control over the trade between England and its colonies and the rest of the world. It was an element of England’s merchant policies and intended to diminish the Dutch supremacy in shipping in trade by only permitting the imported goods to be shipped on an English carrier or a carrier of the country of origin of the products.

    Glorious Revolution

    A group of English nobles invited William of Orange, who was the husband of James II’s daughter, Mary, to bring his forces to England to depose the king. William effected a landing in England with an army in November 1688 and James II making little or no attempt to stem the Dutch advance left for France.
  • Albany Plan of Union

    The plan stated that every colony be given a seat in the council.This body would assume responsibility for such shared concerns as defense, relations with the indigenous peoples of North America, and other matters. The council could than impose certain taxes to finance the defense operations, an idea unheard of at the time. Still, having to relinquish individual freedoms, many colonies disagreed with the idea and found that the outlined proposal transferred too much authority to a central power.

    Seven Year's War (French and Indian War)

    The Seven Year War was a world war fought between the leading European colonies powers where Great Britain and France dominated the war. It was being done throughout Europe, North America, India, the Caribbean, and other colonies. That war is called Seven Years’ War in Europe and Asia while in North America it is referred to as the French and Indian War.

    Pontiac’s Rebellion began in the spring of 1763 because of Britain’s victory in the Seven Years’ War. Therefore; it is abbreviated as Pontiac, an Ottawa chief who organized a united front against the British colonial masters in the region of the Great Lakes and the Ohio valley in present day mid west. Most of the Native discontent with the British involved their complaints against the policy of British establishment in North America.
