The Creation of the Alphabet
The Phoenician system was the first alphabet and shaped how words would be written today. Communication built from this and was a way for information to be shared. Now in schools, the alphabet is used everyday. -

Invention of the Printing Press
Books were copied by hand before this but when the printing press was developed, newspapers, books, and forms of writing were available for everyone. People began to learn how to read, and use reading to educate themselves. This greatly impacted the world of literacy today. -

Children are able to learn words from people around them, as well as play. She introduced phonics, and realized they are also able to write and read at an early age even if it is not "correct." They need a language rich environment. -
