    French and Indian War
    This war ended with the Treaty of Paris which limited colonists right to take land from Indians. This made the colonists upset in addition to all the war debt that was gained after.
  • Sugar Act

    Sugar Act
    This act changed imports from the Caribbean tax from 6 cents per gallon to 3 cents per gallon and allowed British courts to enforce the act. This made the colonials unhappy because it took away the colonial courts' power.
  • Stamp Act

    Stamp Act
    This act required all printed material to carry a stamp which cost money. This angered people who used a lot of paper, like newspaper printers and lawyers.
  • Declaratory Act

    Declaratory Act
    This act said that Britain could tax the colonies but they just don't need to right now. This was alright with the colonist because they were just happy the stamp act was repealed.
  • Townshend Act

    Townshend Act
    Because Britain still needed money, Charles Townshend got the townshend act passed which passed new taxes as well as created a new board of customs to stop smuggling. Colonists responded with a boycott and the women joined in this time to replace british clothes with homespun clothes.
  • Tea Act

    Tea Act
    This act removed all other taxes leaving only a tax on tea. This made the colonists mad so they dumped 4 millions dollars of tea in to the water. They were mad based on the principal that this act showed that Britain could tax anything they wanted.
  • Beginning of the Revolutionary War

    Britain passed many acts known as the intolerable acts. These acts caused colonists to prepare for war.
