The Start of the French and Indian War
The French and Indian war started in May of 1754 when England, France, and the Native Americans all wanted the resources and transportation of the Ohio river valley. -
The Proclamation Line of 1763
This is when the king told the colonists that they could not settle on the land that they had just fought a war for. -
The Sugar Act of 1764
The King wanted to stop smuggling so he taxed goods like cloth, sugar, coffee, and also wine. This also gave naval officers the right to search a person's boat at anytime without their permission. -
The Stamp Act of 1765
This act said that there was a tax on every legal document because they had to have a stamp on each. The colonists tried to find ways around this act by printing big pages, this is why the newspapers today are so big. -
Declaratory Act of 1766
This act stated that parliment had the right to make laws. The King wanted to make sure that the colonists knew that he and the parliment had more power than the colonists did. -
Townshend Acts of 1767
This placed taxes on goods such as: tea, paper, glass and also paint. When this act was put into place the colonists started to become very angry. -
Tea Act of 1773
The purpose of this act was to protect the East India Company from going broke, by making that company the only company that the colonists could buy tea from. -
Intolerable Acts
These were punishments for the protests of the colonists. The King closed the Boston Harbor, the Massachusetts colonists were not allowed to have town meetings without the parliment or the King knowing, anytime an England official was accused of a crime they would send them back to England to have a "fair" trial, and also the colonists had to feed the King's soldiers even if they had families they had to make room for them. -
The Declaration of Independence
After the intolerable acts the colonists were so mad that they wrote the Declaration of Independence to the king explaining that they wanted to be free becuase of all the things he made them do. This caused a war.
