The End of the French and Indian War
The war ended with the Treaty of Paris and Great Britian had lots of territory gain but had lots of war debt. Britain won the war and took control over land that was claimed by France. -
The Sugar Act
Changing tax from six cents per gallon to three cents. Many colonist protested this act and complained to parliament saying they can’t have taxation without proper representation. -
The Stamp Act
Legislation that requires a tax to be paid for certain documents. When the tax is paid you would receive an official stamp that says basically your documents are legal. The colonist reacted to this act with boycotts of British goods to riots and attacks on the tax collectors. -
The Declaratory Act
British parliament’s taxing authority was the same as it was in America in Great Britain. Many colonist were celebrating this act as they saw it as a victory! -
The Townshend Act
This was British parliament taxing goods imported to the American colonies. This act had colonist reacting by boycotting and starting the non-importation movement. -
The Tea Act
Trying to reduce the great amounts of tea held by the financially troubled British East India Company and to try and help the struggling company. The colonist that were merchants acted out with anger after this act. -
The Start of the Revolutionary War
Growing tensions between people of Great Britain’s 13 North American Colonies and the colonial government. The start of the revolutionary war was signified by the shot heard around the world.
