Start of the French and Indian war
The French and Indian War was a war fought by France and Britain over north America. The colonists were unhappy about being controlled by either of these two countries. They were also upset, because the king kept putting taxes on them, because the French and Indian war was very expensive. -
Sugar Act
Britain cut the tax of sugar from 6 cents to 3 and outlawed smuggling. The colonists smuggled most of the sugar they traded which forced them to pay more in taxes than before. -
Stamp Act
The Stamp Act forced all printed material to carry a stamp that cost money. The Colonists boycotted the British goods which eventually led to abolishing the act altogether. -
Declaratory Act
The declaratory act granted Britain the ability to tax the colonies at will. Colonists were still unhappy, but didn't do much since they ended all other taxes before. -
Townshend Act
This Act taxed more goods coming in and out of the colonies. The colonists were very angry by this tax and kept boycotting and even rioting. -
Tea Act
The Tea Tax set a low tax on tea and banned any smuggling. The colonists were offended that britain thought they had the right to tax their tea and force them to buy low quality tea. The colonists fought the british soldiers sent by the king and riotied all through their cities. -
Start Of The Revolutionary War
The revolutionary war was the colonies want for freedom from Britain since Britain had won control over them. The colonies were angry at britain for their taxes and harsh laws, but satisfied that something was being done and the hope of freedom from britain.
