    Washington defeats the French in a surprise attack. The British retreat to the Great Meadows and build Fort Neccesity. This is the first battle of the war.
  • Battle of the Wilderness

    Battle of the Wilderness
    The French defeat General Braddock's forces near Fort Duquesne in Pennsylvania, leaving British backcountry undefended. This battle will show that the tactics used by the English (standing in lines and shooting) will not work in future battles on the frontier. Camoflauge used by the French and their Native American allies devestate the English troops.

    English Colonel William Johnson's troops win, raising morale and making the colonel the first english hero of the war.
  • Fort William Henry

    Fort William Henry
    (August 3-9) The commander of the French army, Louis-Joseph de Montcalm captures Fort William Henry. The massacre conducted by the Montcalm Native Americans occurs, killing 200 English civilians and soldiers. This gives the French access to Lake George and a key supply route.

    The English army captures Loiusburg, opening the route to Canada so that more English troops can move in.

    ( August 26-28) French forces surrender Fort Frontenac (on Lake Ontario), destroying any means of French communication with their troops in Ohio Valley.

    The English forces win the important battle of Quebec. To reach the battlegrounds, the British scale the cliff in front of the fort and suprise the French. Both of the generals (Generals Montcalm and Wolfe) die in battle. The English gain control of the Saint Lawrence River.

    The English take Montreal. Letters of surrender are signed by Canada. The English have won.

    The treaty declares that all French territory on the mainland of North America is lost. The British get Quebec and the Ohio Valley. The port of New Orleans and the Louisiana Territory west of the Mississippi were given to Spain. The Seven Years' War is over.
