  • Meeting of the Estates General

    Many representatives met to vote on several issues all involving money management in France. They met in June of 1789. This meeting started many of the issues that caused the French Revolution.

    Rebels in France overthrew an armory in Paris, France known as the Bastille. This event was a major win for the poor rebels. It also put more weapons in the hands of the rebels.

    A colony in Haiti gave blacks equality with the French citizens. This was a huge step forward in the equality of minorities. This mindset would soon spread to other places of the world.

    The people of France hated King Louis XIV for not doing anything to fix the poverty in his country. He lived extremely lavishly while his people starved. He was beheaded for treason on January 21, 1793.

    France lost 50,000 men in battle. They admitted defeat and evacuated their forces. This is one of the final defeats France suffered before the end of the Revolution period.

    Napoleon was a French man that rose to hold the title of Emperor. He led during the war and led France after the revolution. He went on to further France as a nation by engaging in many wars.
