Free Trade Agreement Signed
Free Trade Agreement signed.
What does this mean for Canada?
The free trade agreement is an important part of Canada's growth and development. Free trade will allow Canada to trade with other countries and in that build allies. It will also help our economic growth. There are disadvantages to smaller businesses though. It will be an adjustment for farmers because they will have to compete with much larger industries that will come with free trade. Overall, free trade will affect Canada greatly. -
Agreement Signed by leaders of both countries (Mexico and United States)
Agreement signed
What are the reasons that the other countries signed this agreement?
The reasons for other countries' agreeing were because they wanted higher economic growth, just like Canada. The USA looked at the pros and cons of the agreement, and decided to do what was best for the economy of there countries.
Did/Do they know the risks/advantages?
The countries need to make sure they are not just looking at the economic issues to solve, but also the effect it will have on there citizens. -
Free Trade put into action
Pros:
higher economic growth
lower government spending
more people into country
expertise
transferring technology
Cons:
increased job loss
poor working conditions
smaller domestic jobs such as farms, can't compete with the larger business that comes with free trade (will lose farm)
as development is moved into the more scarce areas, indigenous people may be affected by it (people must leave, resources they use will be destroyed) -
Cons Questions
How can we make free trade a positive thing for everyone? Is it possible to make it a positive experience for everyone?
I think it is impossible for everyone to be happy with this decision. There are a lot of people to please, but as citizens, we must trust the government to do what is best for the country. There are pros and cons to this agreement, and if the cons affect the society greatly, the government should know it is not good.
Will we have resources in place for people who are displaced? -
Free Trade
The problem of fair trade is that it affects the local economy by making local products the same price as international products. How do we create a fair and balanced economy between local and international companies?
We can solve this issue by putting resources in place for anyone who is affected by the economic issues that come with free trade.
