Frederick Douglass was born in Talbot County, Marlyland. His mother was Harriet Bailey and his father was rumored to be his master.

Since his youth, Douglass lived on a plantation called "Great House farm" and belonged to Colonel Edward Lloyd.

Frederick was told that he was being sent to work for Hugh Auld. Lucretia suggested him to wash up and provided Douglass with a new pair of pants.

When living with the Aulds, Mrs. Auld begins to teach Douglass how to read and write. Mr. Auld finds out and forbids it by suggesting it was unsafe.

Douglass returns to the "Great House Farm", due to his master's death. Douglass was passed onto Captain Anthony's daughter, Mrs. Lucretia, and i returned to Baltimore.

Douglass reads "The Colombian Orator", which described his feeling towards slavery and evens learns about the word, "abolition".

After Mrs. Lucretia died, her husband remarries, but Douglass has some issues and is sent to Sr. Michael's Maryland to Master Thomas.

Douglass's master Thomas, then sends him to live and work for Mr. Convoy.

When Douglass becomes ill Mr. Convoy continues to whip him, so he tries to complain to Mr. Auld but is rejected and sent back to Mr. Convoy, then Douglass makes a vow the he would never be whipped again.

Douglass is sent to work for Mr. William Freeland who turns out to be much nicer to the enslaved people. Mr. Freeland even opens a school for the slaves.

Douglass and other fellow slaves were trying to figure out how to escape but were soon discovered and were sent to jail. Douglass is then sent back to Baltimore.

Douglass begins to work in a shipyard in Baltimore and although he runs into issues with some white carpenters, Douglass begins to earn wages but must give all of his money back to Mr. Auld

Douglass creates a deal with Mr. Thomas Auld in order for him to earn more money (which would be used to escape to freedom).

In September Douglass manages to save enough money for him to escape to New York.

Douglass decides to marry Anna Murray (which was important since slaves were not allowed to be married) they decided to move to New Bedford Massachusetts.
