Fredericks mistress at the time, Sophia Auld, was teaching young Frederick to read. Her husband figured out about the teaching and put an end to it. -
Read the news.
Frederick read the newspaper and found out that there is a movement called the abolitionist movement. He then learns out what that word means. -
Sent to Maryland.
Frederick Douglass is sent to work for Thomas Auld in Maryland. Here he tries to teach other slaves how to read until he is caught by Mr. Auld and is punished. -
Tries to escape.
Frederick and a few others make a plan to escape in the night. They attempt by forging passes, but they get caught and thrown in jail. -
Gets to find employment.
Fredericks master, Master Hugh, agreeded to let Frederick go find his own emploment, as long as Fredrick gave him some of the profit each week. -
Frederick is a free man!
Frederick flees to freedom by telling Master Hugh he hasn't been receiving pay. He then soon after marries Anna Murray.
