Early life
Frederick Douglass was born a slave and sold to a family in Baltimore. The women who owned him had never had slaves before so she showed him how to read and write. When her husband found out she was not allowed to teach him any more. -
Escapeing
Frederick Douglass attempted to escape slavery but was caught and jailed for it. Eventually he made another plan to escape. At the age of twenty he had freed himself. -
First Speech
Frederick Douglass gave his first speech at the Massachusetts anti-slavery convention. He was only 21 years old. He was asked to continue speaking after that day. -
First Book
Frederick Douglass his first auto-biography. It is called Frederick Douglas an American Slave. This book led to him getting a job as a news paper writer. -
Leaving Country
Douglass went to Europe to give speeches about his life and the cruelty in slavery. This led to his books being translated into other languages. Douglas was know a famous man. -
Underground Railroad
Frederick Douglass began housing slaves on the under ground railroad. This was dangerous because he was a well know man in the country. He knew this but continued to house slaves. -
Women's Writes
Frederick Douglass participated in the first women writes speech. This was a big moment for Douglas but huge for women rights. It was the first time men spoke about women rights. -
54th
Frederick Douglass started recruiting people for the 54th Massachusetts regiment. This was the first all black regiment in American History. The men in this regiment where very brave. -
D.C.
Frederick Douglass was appointed to the Marshal of the District of Columbia. He was the first black man to hold office. This is a great turning point for men. -

Frederick Douglass marries Helen Pits. She is white women. Douglas was near the end of his carer at this time.
