Victory in Europe Day
World War ll officially ended today. The surrender documents were signed on May 7th, 1945, by General Alfred Jodi in Reims, France. This day became known as the Victory in Europe Day and as ‘La Fête de la Victoire’, and has since become a national holiday. Marshal Philippe Pétain charged with treason
Philippe Pétain joined the army in 1876 and became one of the most heroic figures in France after the World War I. He became the Primes Minister of France sometime in 1940. Women vote for the first time
The Legislative elections were held on this day. Women were not allowed to vote as they were thought to be biased and easily manipulated. Women were finally allowed to vote in the legislative elections on October 21st, 1945. This was the first official Indochina war that took place by the Route Colonial 4. It blocked off the path where French would trade food with those living at the military base by it.
