Britain and France were the strongest powers in Europe. They competed for wealth and empire. The rivalry caused harsh feelings between them the colonists in North America. -

In the confederacy they had five nations which was Mohawk, Seneca, Cayuga, Onondaga, and Oneida. Later on groups of Native Americans joined and conquered by the Iroquois. The Tuscarora joined, then the confederacy thought of it as the Six Nations. -
Hostility between the French and the British
The conflict between French and British forces grew. British built a fort in Pickawillany, then soon after the French attacked Pickawillany. They drove British traders out of Ohio. -
Iroquois
Around the 1700s Iroquois came under greater pressure. The leaders of the confederacy gave trading rights to British. They became their allies. Iroquois was upset the power between British and French that was hard to astablish. -
George Washingtons Mission
The governor Robert Dinwiddie of Virginia sent George Washington a surveyor into Ohio. Georges mission was to tell the French that they were trespassing on Great Britians land claimed. When George told them it didnt go over very well. Washington later said "that it was their absolute design, or plan, to take possesion of the Ohio, and by God they would do it.
