The Townshend Act
Leaders from the British thought that they could be nearly challenging to collect any money from the Stamp Act .The Parliament voted to repeal the Stamp Act in 1766. The news was celebrated with marching with parades and fire works. But Britain needed money. King Gearge III insisted the Britian had the right to tax colonists. -
The Boston Massacre
Colonists threw snowballs at the British and the British fired their guns. Five colonists died and Crispus Attucks was one of them -
The Boston Tea Party
There was a tax on tea and the colonists protested. The Sons of Liberty dressed up as Mohawk Indians and dumped tea into the Harbor. -
The First Continental Congress Meets
A representative came from each colony except Georgia . Colonists met together in Philiadelphia. They decided to stop all trade with British and to form militias, volunteer armies, in each colony. They decided to meet again in a year. -
The Battle of Lexington and Concord
This was the first Battle of the Revolutionary
War . The British tried to scare the colonists, the colonists fought back. The colonists retreated from Lexington and went to Concord. They won the Battle at Concord -
Paul Revere's Midnight ride
On April 18, 1775 Paul Revere saw two lanterns in Old South church in Boston , Massachusetts. He saw two lanterns lit which meant that the Bristish were coming by sea .He rode his horse to Lexington to warn Samuel Adams and John Hancock and the other colonists that the British were going to attack. -
Decloration of Independence is adopted
This document was written by Thomas Jefferson and signed by the Continental Congresss . It was sent to King George III. It decared that the Americans were free from the British. -
The Battle of Saratoga
The colonists were at the fort near Saratoga. The British advanced and the fight began. The British had many deaths and ran out of food. General Burgonyone surrendered the British army. -
The Battle of Yorktown
George Washington was going to surround the British.The French joined in the battle by water . Washington saw that they could trap the British at Yorktown . Every day the cannons pounded the British . On October 19, Cornwallis surrendered his army to Washington. The Americans defeated the mighty British.
