  • The Boston Tea Party

    The Boston Tea Party was caused because the American colonists believed Britain unfairly taxed them. They believed that they taxed them to pay for expenses that were caused by the French and Indian War. The Boston Tea Party was considered a political protest because of the taxes. The American colonist had dumped around 342 chests of tea into the harbor.
  • The Battles of Lexington and Concord

    The British had marched into Lexington and Concord. Their intention was to suppress the possibility of rebellion by taking positions of weapons from the colonist. They did not get what they wanted, instead, they caused the first battle in the Revolutionary War. The Battles of Lexington and Concord fighting had only lasted about ten minutes.
  • The Declaration of Independence is Signed

    The Declaration of Independence had been signed on August 2, 1776, after Congress had agreed to the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration of Independence was signed in the Pennsylvania State House.
  • The Winter at Valley Forge

    During this time period, there was regular freezing and thawing. The weather was very odd because there was raining and snowing as well. There were shortages of provisions, clothing, and shoes. The living conditions were extremely difficult for people. The Valley Forge was fought because the British were occupying Philadelphia for the winter, and the American army needed to keep an eye on the British.
  • Article of Confederation are Ratified

    It took 4 years to ratify the Article of Confederation. The Articles of Confederation had the ability to keep the independence and sovereignty of each state within the union. It had declared independence from Great Britain and created a weak government.
  • The Battle of Yorktown

    The Battle of Yorktown lasted from Sep 28 - Oct 19, 1781. The Battle of Yorktown had been caused because Lord Cornwallis wanted to keep most of his men in the Chesapeake town. He wanted to keep his men here until fresh supplies and reinforcements could arrive from Britain. Both the French and the Americans wanted to capture the British before that could happen. Lord Cornwallis ended up surrendering at Surrender Field, ending the American Revolution.

  • The Constitution is Ratified

    Delaware had been the first state to vote in favor, and finally, New Hampshire had become the ninth state to accept the Constitution. This act officially ended the government under the Articles of Confederation.
  • Presidential Inauguration of George Washington

    The very first inauguration of George Washington had been held on Thursday, April 30, 1789. This event was held on the balcony of Federal Hall in New York City, New York. George Washington was going to become the first president of the United States. This inauguration was held for almost 2 months.
  • Washington’s Farewell Address

    In Washington’s Farewell Address, he exhorted Americans to set aside their violent likes and dislikes of foreign nations. He had tried to warn Americans because of the danger of political parties.
  • The Death of George Washington

    George Washington's death was believed to be caused by a throat infection or septic sore throat. He went through a series of medical procedures. One of these medical procedures resulted in draining almost 40 percent of his blood. People believe that it wasn't the illness that killed him, but it was the medical procedures.
  • Election Day, 1800

    The election day marked the very first peaceful transition when it comes to power from one political party to another. This confirmed the role in choosing the American president.
  • Marbury vs. Madison

    Marbury vs. Madison was a U.S. Supreme Court case that established the concept of judicial review. The judicial review is the power of the federal courts to declare legislative and executive acts unconstitutional. Marbury never got his commission.
