Five day dog fight between the Allied forces and the Japanese. For the first time in since Pearl Harbor, a Japanese invasion was stopped. -
Midway
The Americans once again stopped the Japanese. This was the turning point of the war. America decoded Japanese messages. -
Guadalcanal
Americans defeated the Japanese on land for the first time. America was hopping form island to island taking territory form the Japanese. -
Philippine Sea
Major naval battle. Japanese developed a kamikaze plan and suffered heavy losses. -
Yalta Conference
A meeting between Stalin Roosevelt and Churchill in the Soviet Union. Met to discuss the future of Germany. They came to an agreement and divided Germany into 4 zones. -
Iwo Jima
A critical island for the U.S. The base located on that island had bombers that could reach Japan. The Battle of Iwo Jima had the highest death toll of any other battle on the Pacific at that point. -
Okinawa
More kamikaze attacks were launched. 110,000 Japanese soldiers were killed in this battle. 7,600 Americans were killed. -
Hiroshima
America dropped an atomic bomb on Hiroshima making the city cease to exist. The Japanese still refused to surrender. -
Nagasaki
A second bomb was dropped. 200,00 Japanese lives were taken. After seeing the destruction Japan chose to surrender. -
V-J Day
The day Japan officially surrendered ending the war.
