Shoe Goo
This is a skaters life saver. This is applied to the side of your shoes to prevent rips and tears. Even though it looks bad, its very protective.

The homemade trucks used from old roller sskates were not working out well. Until a group of guys founded the company Independent Truck Co. These trucks were made to maneuver alot easier with trucks and a lot less weight.

Becoming Official
Skateboarding became an official culture. The whole punk rock scene was started and made the genre rise as well.

Shoes
Once skateboarding grew, there was a need for shoes. a standard pair of running shoes wouldnt cut it, so they decided to make flat sole shoes for more grip and a thicker tongue for more comfort.

In the 90s, skateboarding was being called a sport. It also was very dangerous. ESPN recgonized skateboarding during the Extreme Games In Rhode Island. then later on in '95, the first X-Games was introduced.

Different Material
Skateboards were made from straight up wood, but now have turned more towards maple, oak, and fiberglass. The newer decks have 7 plies of wood to make them more shock absorbant and durable. -
Team Sports
Major brands and companies hosted events such as skateboard contests and had their own teams. Zumiez, a skate shop, hosts a competition every year for skaters to compete
