This war was fought between North Vietnam and its communist allies and South Vietnam and countries that were against communism. In the movie Forrest enlisted in the army and served in North Vietnam, it was a very dangerous conflict and many of the soldiers serving lost their lives as a result of this war. -
Kennedy Assasination
As President John Fitzgerald Kennedy was traveling in the back of a car with his wife Jacuqeline, Governor John Connaly, in Dallas Texas he was assasinated, He was shot by a sniper rifle while he was in the vehicle. The assasin turned out to be a former U.S Marine name Lee Harvey Oswald. In the movie the assasination is mentioned and Forrest meets JFK and says the famous lines,"I gotta pee." Discussed in Class.

Black Panther Party
Founded in 1966 this group has a very controvertial history. This was an African American reveloutionary group that aimed to stop police brutality, segregation, and racism. It's goals were to achieve equal rights. The group was also known for their similarities to the military, they were a very popular group and hav been described as very influential. In the movie Forrest met the party through Jenny. -
Martin Luther King Jr Assasinated
In Memphis, Tennesse and at the age of 39 MLK was assasinated by a Catholic named James Earl Ray. Ray was convicted and pleaded guily to this crime, he was placed in prison for 99 years and passed at the age of 70. MLK was assasinated in Lorraine Hotel as he stood at the balcony. His death was later challenged as a conspiracy and the government was blamed. -
The Moon Landing
For the first time ever a person landed on the moon in the year 1969. The first person to step on the moon was Neil Armstrong. The United States was the first to accomplish this task and were very proud that they had beat Russia when they accomplished this feat in a mission known famously as Apollo 11. Discussed in class.

Ping Pong Diplomacy
This is a type of diplomatic relationship between the United States and China. An American Ping Pong player named Glen Cowan was forced to travel with the chinese ping pong team and became friendly with Zhuang Zhedong. Resulting from this the U.S team was invited to China to play with Chinese players, this became a positive foreign affair betwwen the 2 countries. In the movie Gump is one if the American players playing against the Chinese. -
Ford attempted assasination
U.S president, Gerald Ford, was in Sacramento California when a member of the Charles Manson Cult named Lynette Fromme attempted to kill him. Lynette's goal was to halt pollution and to make a satement. She attacked the president with a gun that failed to fire from arm's length at the outside of the Public Grounds of State California building. -
Reagan attempted assasination
John Hinckley Jr. shot president Reagan from 10 feet away after the president finished addressing construction workers. This attack took place outside of the Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C and the president survived the attempt.
