    After World War II, the long period of intense rivalry between the Soviet Union and the United States.Soldiers of the Soviet Union and the United States did not battle directly during the Cold War. Included events such as the Berlin Wall, Red Scare, and the Space Race. The main goal of the Soviet Union was to expand communism and the U.S sought to stop it.
  • Elvis Presley

    Elvis Presley
    Elvis Presley was an American icon and tremendous cultural figure. He fused black rhythm and blues with white bluegrass and country styles and created an unprecedented new music idiom known as rockabilly. Elvis Presley helped expose African American music styles and culture to white youth. Forrest meets Elvis in his childhood home, which his mother rented out to strangers. Forrest dances with Elvis introducing Elvis' famous dance ¨The King¨

  • Integration of University of Alabama

    Integration of University of Alabama
    In order to protest the desegregation of public schools, Governor George Wallace stood in the doorway of an auditorium to stop any African-American students from getting in. He was eventually asked to move by the national guard. The U.S Supreme Court had declared segregation unconstitutional in 1954´s Brown v Board of Education and president JFK enforced this by deploying federal troops to force the University of Alabama's desegregation.

    John F Kennedy death
    JFK was the president during part of the cold war and during the superpower rivalry and the Cuban missile crisis. Other events, which were during his terms was the building of the Berlin wall, the space race, and early events of the Vietnamese war. JFK was shot dead in Dallas Texas, where Lyndon B Johnson, vice president was then inaugurated.

    The U.S War with Vietnam was a military conflict which was spread across three decades. It was supposedly fought to stop the spread of communism in Asia. Thousands were killed on each side and the conflict ended with the Paris Peace Accords of 1973. U.S troops were first deployed on March 8, 1965 however the war began in 1954.

  • The Black Panther Party

    The Black Panther Party
    An African American revolutionary leftist organization from 1966-1982. They believed in preventing racism against blacks, and that all blacks deserved to be treated equally to whites in society. The group was specifically known for its rhetoric, military posture and its way of expressing their beliefs and challenging police brutality against the black community by self defense and arms. The group was founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seal.

    Apollo 11
    The first man made steps on the moon. The United states sent Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to space in an attempt to land men on the lunar surface and return them safely to earth. Occurred during the Space Race. The Apollo 11 put the United States at an advantage over the Soviet Union with the cold war.

    Members of Nixon's Committee to Re-Elect the President (Creep) broke into the Democratic National Committee's Watergate headquarters, stole copies of top-secret documents and bugged the office's phones. After investigation it was found out that President Nixon was aware of this Soon after the investigation Nixon resigned as president of the United States.

    Most intense tropical cyclone of 1974, caused $162 billion in damage and killing 8 people. Approximately 100,000 residents left their homes and sought shelter. Affected areas of Louisiana through Texas.

    Apple was a technological corporation created by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak and Mike Markkula. The first apple product was the Apple 1, a computer with very new technological designs. The impact of Apple´s technological designs has been used by many other companies and is the number one phone product in the United States today.

  • John Lennon

    John Lennon
    John Lennon was an English musician who was one of the founding members of The Beatles. The Beatles were very famous in the pop culture world. Lennon was known for his rebellious nature and his criticism of the Vietnam War. His criticism was so harsh that the Nixon administration attempted to deport him back to England so that he would cause no more issues. Unfortunately Lennon was shot by Mark David Chapman on December 8th 1980 in his apt.
