Hound Dog is Released
Elvis Presley's hit song, "Hound Dog" was released. Became famous from the way he moved his hips while performing the song. This was considered inapporiate by some. -
Bryant Takes Over the University of Alabama Football Team
In 1958, Bear Bryant took control of the University of Alabama football team. In 1961, under Bryant's leadership Alabama had a 11-0 season and beat Arkanasa in the Suger Bowl. He coached for at Alabama for 25 years, winning six national titles and thirteen SEC championships. -
Escalation of the Vietnam War
In 1963 Lyndon B. Johnson started to send more troops to Vietnam to fight the war. He went back on his previous statement to not send any troops to a war that shouldn't be fought by Americans. This angered many and caused for protests and anti-war movements. At the end of the war 58,220 Americans and lost their lives. Chapter 33 Section 2 -
University of Alabama Desegregated
While running as governor of Alabama, George Wallace promised to keep schools segregated. When African American students tried to desegregate the University of Alabama, Governor Wallace blocked the door with state troopers. However, since the Supreme Court had declared segregation unconstitutional, President Kennedy sent National Guard troops to the University of Alabama to force desegregation. -
Assassination of John F. Kennedy
While campaigning in Dallas, Texas, President Kennedy was shot and killed while in a presidential motorcade. The Warren Commission discovered that Lee Harvey Oswald had shot the shot and killed the President. The death of Kennedy caused many stunned reactions across the world. The Black Panther Party "was a black revolutionary socialist organization". It was founded in California by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale. Originally wanted to protect black neighborhoods from police brutality. However their focus turned to supporting socialist and Marxist doctrines -
Assassination of Robert F. Kennedy
While staying at the Ambassador Hotel, Kennedy was shot as he walked through the kitchen. He later died in the Good Samaritan Hospital. Sirhan Shirhan, a Palestinian immigrant was convicted of murduring Senator Kennedy. -
Apollo 11 Lands on the Moon
The Apollo 11 was the first spacecraft to successfully land on the moon with a crew of three people. Neil Armstrong became the first human to step foot on the moon. With Buzz Aldrin, the two astronauts spent two and a half hours on the surface collecting 47.5 pounds of lunar material to return to Earth. -

John Lennon, of The Beetles, released his single "Imagine". It became his best selling single during his solo career. The song allows the listener to imagine a world at peace, much like other songs during this time. -
Watergate Scandal
In May of 1972 member's of Nixon's Committee to Re-Elect the President broke into the Democratic National Committee's Watergate headquarters and stole copies of top-secert documents and bugged the office. In June, these members returned to fix a wiretrap that didn't work properly, and were caught. Nixon then tried to cover-up the FBI's investigation by instructing the CIA to stop their investigation. Apple's IPO
On December 12, 1980, Apple's initial public offering was $22.00 per share. These shares were ruled "too risky" which caused many investors to back away from their stocks. Today, Appl'es stocks are worth $628.10 per stock. -
HIV/AIDS Outbreak
When AIDS was first discovered, doctors only saw the disease in gay men. This led to the Centers for Disease Control to call it GRID (gay-related immune deficiency). AIDS interferes more and more with the immune system and causes the infected human to get other infections.
