    This war began in 1955 and ends in 1975. One of the biggest controversies was the idea of sending young men who were barely the age of 18 to fight and die abroad. In the film Forrest Gump joins the army straight out of high school and is deployed to Vietnam where goes through some tough events and looses a very close friend.

    Elvis Presley Apperance
    Elvis Presley became one of the most famous rock singers during this time. In the movie, young Forrest attempts to dance to "Ain't nothing but a hound dog", while he wears his leg braces. This gives Elvis Presley the idea for his most known dance.

    Desegregation of University of Alabama
    Three black students were admitted to the University of Alabama and the President ended the segregation of schools. The Governor of Alabama strongly disagreed with the decision made and stood outside the school in protest. The president had to order the national guard to force Wallace to step aside and let the students enter. They became the first African American students to ever attend the university.

    In the movie Forrest Gump watches the assassination of President JFK. He was shot in the chest in Dallas Texas by Lee Harvey Oswald. The assassination of the president was an unexpected event and led to sorrow for many.

In the movie, Forrest Gump goes to check his mail, and there he finds a letter from the company. Lieutenant Dan made an investment into the company with the money earned from their shrimping company.
