Forrest enters the Army after his college graduation and is soon deployed to Vietnam. While in Vietnam, Forrest in shot in the "butt-ox" while saving his platoon. -

Nixon was communist fighting president from California. He is known as the only President to resign from office. He resigned after it was discovered that he arranged a break in at the Democratic National Committee headquarters. -
Ping-Pong Diplomacy
A Ping Pong game played between the Usa and China in 1971 employed ping pong diplomacy. This strategy was used to improve Sino-American relations and thaw tension in the early 70's. Forrest was on the Usa ping pong team that traveled to China. -
Forrest Discovers Watergate
Forrest calls the front desk while staying at the Watergate Hotel complaining of flashlights keeping him awake. This causes Frank Wills the security guard to investigate the building next door and discover the Watergate scandal. -
Hurricane Carmen
Lt. Dan and Forrest's boat is the only to survive Hurricane Carmen making them the only shrimpers left on the coast and very rich. -
John Lennon's Death
Forrest met John Lennon in the early 70's and inspired him to write imagine. Forrest mentions that several years later someone killed that young man for no reason at all. Mark Chapman shot Lennon in 1980 in New York City. -
Ronald Reagan is shot
John Hinckey Jr. Shoots Reagan in the Chest but is unsuccessful in this assassination attempt. Forrest mentions this and the video is shown in the film. -
