    The Hippie Movement
    The movement started sometime in the 1960s. They had anti-war beliefs and protested fighting in the Vietnam War. During their protest at the Pentagon, a soldier came to speak about the war, however, something went wrong with the sound. Nobody could hear what he had said. They were a social group that used drugs and was mostly comprised of the youth.
  • University of Alabama Integration

    University of Alabama Integration
    Governor George Wallace of Alabama refused to integrate schools. He even blocked the door once. President JFK ordered the National Guard to escort African American students to the university for their safety. The governor could no longer stop integration. The next day, two African American students successfully enrolled in the university.
  • President John F. Kennedy Assassinated

    President John F. Kennedy Assassinated
    President JFK was driving in an open top convertible with his wife when he was shot. Kennedy was on a 10 mile parade route in Dallas, Texas. Governor John Connally and his wife were also in the convertible when JFK got shot. Lee Harvey Oswald, on the 6th floor of a building, fired three shots and killed Kennedy.

    The Black Panther Party was a political organization that was formed in 1966 and ceased operations in 1982. It was formed to challenge the police brutality of African Americans. They were an important part of the Civil Rights movement. They wanted justice for all.

    On July 20, 1969, the US became the first country to have men land and walk on the moon. The two people were Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. The US beat the Soviet Union to landing people on the moon. Neil Armstrong said, "That's one small step for (a) man, one giant leap for mankind."

    China invited the US to compete in their ping pong tournament in 1971. One of the US players missed the bus and got on the Chinese team bus. After they both talked with interpreters, the ping pong teams were used for foreign affairs. The diplomacy was successful and lead to the US and China relationship.

    Former President Richard Nixon was found to be involved in the burglary at the Watergate Hotel on June 17, 1972. The burglary was at the Democratic National Committee Headquarters. After thorough investigation, it was found the Nixon was aware of the burglary and members of his re-election committee were involved as well. Nixon did not hand over the tapes from the oval office until forced and had already gotten rid of certain parts. He resigned soon after.

    Hurricane Carmen was dissipated on September 10, 1974. It was the most intense tropical cyclone of the hurricane season that year. It came from Africa. It had eight casualties. It destroyed everything in its path.
  • Vietnam War

    The date is the end of the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War was a war that happened between Communist North Vietnam and South Vietnam officially started on November 1, 1955. The US supported South Vietnam while Communist China and the Soviet Union supported North Vietnam. The casualties were unbearable for the US so it withdrew in 1973. Two years afterwards, South Vietnam was invaded by North Vietnam. Vietnam became communist.
  • John Lennon's Murder

    John Lennon's Murder
    In 1980, John Lennon was shot and killed by one of his fans. John Lennon was in the famous rock band (group) called the Beatles. He was entering his apartment when an obsessive fan, Mark David Chapman, shot him four times. He died on route to the hospital.
