Elvis Presley
Elvis was born in 1935 to a poor family in Tupelo, Mississippi. After graduating high school he began to sing professinally part-time. In August 16 Elvis released his first major record.By 1955 he was the biggest music star in the country. Vietnam War
The Vietnam war was the solution to containing communism. During that time North Vietnam was communist and we didnt want South Viet falling into the wrong hands. we actively pursued our policy of containment. Many innocent people died. Most of the time soliders fought the invisible enemy. Guerilla warfare was used a lot through out this war. -
Desegregated
Set in motion in Little Rock, Arkansas. Began in September 1957 when 9 African American students wre admitted to the all-white Central High School( Brown v. Board of Education).
The picture is of Elizabeth Eckford, walking into the school with an opposing angry mob around her. These nine students were escorted by National Guardsmen everyday to and fro. Ch.29 Society After WWII Sec.3 -
Counterculture
The hippie movement took off in the 1960's. San Franciscon, Cali being the birthplace. These people would drop out of school. They promoted love and peace through protests and music. They often had long hair, dirty and worn loose flowy clothing with psychedelic colors. -
Reagan Assassination Attempt
Reagan was leaving the Washington Hilton Hotel in Washington D.C. He had just finished giving a speech to a group of trade unionist when John Hinckley Jr tried to shoot him. Several shots were fired. Reagan and a couple of his men were shot but none of them in any major condition. -
Tragedy Strikes
President John F. Kennedy was killed on November.22,1963 in Dallas, Texas. In order to build more support for his presidential campaign he decided to make the trip to Texas. As the motorcade moved through the town Kennedy recieved a blow to the head and LBJ was sworn in hours later.

Man on the Moon
At 3:59 A.M on July. 21st, 1969 Neil Armstrong became the first man on the moon. Armstrong was a US astronaut who led the Apollo 11 mission to the moon along with Edwin E Aldrin.
Armstrong said, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap for mankind." -
Healthy Life
Durning the 70's a series of books and plans came out to improve one's self. A book written by Jim Fixx inspired the nation to lead a healthier lifestyle by jogging or running. There were also other books that empowered people and thier potential. Yoga and meditation also became popular. -
Ping Pong Diplomacy
It was an invitation by the Chinese to a ping pong tornament. This was a big deal because it showed the improving relationship between America and China despite many differences. We end up losing. Nixon also becomes the first president to visit China. -
Nixon Resignation
" I shall resign the presidency effective at noon tomorrow". Nixon resigns after evidence he could no longer refuse pile up with ties about the political scandal that is Watergate. Bob Woodward and Carl Bernstein were the two journalist that uncovered Watergate. Nixon was given a presidential pardon by President Ford. -
Apple Inc.
This company was created by Steve Jobs and Stephen Wozniak. This PC was smaller and more affordable than the other computers at the time. The Apple logo was created by Rob Janoff ( with the striped colors) until 1998. -
AIDS Epidemic
In the movie it is understood that Jenny has contracted AIDS. In the 80s the virus is contracted by many people. Commonly among drug users. At the time they didnt understand the virus and thought it was some form of cancer. AIDS stands for Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome.
