Jan 1, 1854 Florence Nightingale transformed the poor state of the hospital and saved many lives. Jan 1, 1854 Florence became known as 'The Lady of the Lamp' as she cared for soldiers throughout the night and hardly had any sleep. Dec 2, 1855 The 'Nightingale Fund' was founded and people contributed for the training of nurses. Dec 2, 1856 The Crimean War ended. Jan 1, 1857 Florence returned home as a heroine. Jan 1, 1859 Florence established the Nightingale Training School for Nurses in London. Jan 1, 1883 Florence met Queen Victoria where she was awarded the Royal Red Cross.
