Easter 1998 Floods
At the start of Easter 1998 a stationary band of heavy rain affected the Midlands. This resulted in floods in which five people died and thousands had to be evacuated from their homes. -
Floods in 2000
The year 2000 saw the wettest autumn on record across the UK, according to the Met Office, which says that 10,000 homes and businesses were flooded across 700 locations. -
Glasgow Floods
They were a series of flash floods that were caused by thunderstorms in the Scottish Lowlands in late July and early August 2002. -
Boscastle Flood
Another series of flash flooding caused by prolonged durations of rainfall, 8 hours in one day, in the two villages of Boscastle and Crackington Haven in Cornwall. -
Cumbrian Rivers Flood
Rivers Eden, Kent, Derwent, Greta, Cocker and other Cumbrian Rivers flooded in January 2005 damaging around 2000 properties and causing more than £250 million worth of damage. -
2007 Floods
A series of destructive floods occurred in parts of the United Kingdom during the summer of 2007 with 13 people killed. The worst affected county was Yorkshire and the worst place in the country was Sheffield causing around £6 billion in damages! -
Great Britain and Ireland Floods
This flood affected parts of Great Britain and Ireland throughout November and into December 2009. The worst affected area in Great Britain was the English county of Cumbria. The Irish counties of Clare, Cork, Galway and Westmeath were among the worst affected areas of Ireland. There were 4 fatalities. -
Floods in North East England, Wales and Scotland
These floods lasted until early 2013 and at least 9 people were killed. This flood affected areas all over the UK and caused £1.2 billion in damages. -
North Sea Flood
The flooding affected the north areas of Europe, the the whole UK was affected and in Newcastle, the tidal surge caused the river Tyne to bust it's banks. -
Winter Floods of 2013/14
The UK was affected by storms and heavy rainfall during the winter periods of 2013/14, most noticably in Oxfordshire and Berkshire where the river Thames had flooded and where there was the most media attention. Travel had been disrupted by the flooding as well.
