ITALY ENTERED THE WAR
In late May, a few days after the Italian declaration of war, the Austro-Hungarians created a new army, the 5th, which was to be in charge of defending the sector of the Isonzo river and which was left in charge of General Svetozar Boroević von Bojna. In the week between the declaration of war and the first Italian attacks, the Austro-Hungarians concentrated eight divisions in the area, some from the inactive Serbian front. -
