    Feudalism in Europe

    Feudalism in Europe occurred after the fall of the Roman Empire. The fall of the Roman Empire forced Europe to have to create a new system of government in which a person of higher status would own land and those of a lower status would farm the land.   • Period: 618 to 1279

    Tang and Song Dynasty

    They were both known as "China's Golden Age". Paper money, drinking tea, gunpowder, printing, and the compass were all created during this time period. The peace in these dynasties made them one on the strongest nations in the world.

  • Period: 750 to 1258

    Abbasid Caliphate

    During this time period advancements in mathematics (specifically the creation of algebra) and medicine were made. The emperor's capital was also moved to Baghdad during this time. The fall of the Abbasid Caliphate was due to the rising of the Buyids and the Seljuq Turks.

  • Period: 1206 to 1368

    Mongol Empire

    The Mongol Empire was the largest land empire to exist and was well known for its brutal ways of conquering land. The Mongols had a very strong army and brilliant tactics. They rode horseback and were trained in battle, they were a difficult group to defeat. The downfall of the Mongols was a result of fragmentation of the empire. Once the empire began splitting, the Ming Dynasty conquered the Mongols.

  • Period: 1206 to 1555

    Delhi Sultanate

    The Delhi Sultanate was known for its advancements in architecture and art.They brought Islam to India and they prevented the Mongols from taking over South Asia. They were eventually overthrown by the Mughals.

  • Period: 1235 to

    Mali Empire

    The Mali Empire was well known for the rulers and their wealth as well as being the largest empire in West Africa. The wealth came mostly from gold and salt mines with which they sold and traded. This also ultimately was their downfall. After their ruler passed, the smaller states inside the empire wanted to gain the benefits of the gold and salt mines causing each of the states to split from the empire.

  • Period: 1279 to 1368

    Yuan Dynasty

    Of all the Chinese dynasties, this was the shortest. During this time, advancements were made in art, science, calligraphy, and mathematics. The leader of the Yuan Dynasty was Kublai Khan. After his passing the dynasty weakened and fell after being conquered by the Ming Dynasty.

    Ottoman Empire

    The Ottoman Empire had control over Eastern Europe and most of the Middle East for the majority of their rule. The Ottoman Empire was well known for their achievements in medicine and science. Women were becoming more active in medicine and hospitals were becoming more common.

    European Renaissance

    The European Renaissance was a result of the Middle Ages ending and Europe becoming more modern. This lead to great social,economic, and artistic growth or "rebirth". During this time feudalism was making a huge decline as people were moving and creating new ideas and essentially creating new lives and new advancements.

  • Period: 1346 to 1353

    Bubonic Plague

    The Bubonic Plague, (also known as "The Black Death") largely affected Europe and Asia. Victims of the plague would form large boils that were black and filled with blood and puss. This plague caused many casualties and caused an economic struggle. Farmers and cultivators weren't able to produce and many people were out of work.

  • Period: 1368 to

    Ming Dynasty

    The Ming Dynasty followed the Mongol Dynasty after taking them over. During the Ming era most of the Great Wall of China was built as well as advancements in the development of printing. The Ming Dynasty fell due to a decline in silver and uprisings of the peasants and were defeated by the Qing Dynasty.

    Portuguese Trading Post Empire

    The Portuguese Trading Post wasn't a land based empire, they controlled trade routes. The Portuguese Trading Post Empire formed a series of trade routes created by forcing merchant vessels to pay at certain trading sites.

  • Period: 1428 to 1572

    Mesoamerican Empires

    This was the time period in which the Incas and Aztecs existed and thrived. During this time the Inca created elaborate hydraulic systems and a large road system on difficult terrain. At this time they were the biggest empire in Pre-Columbian America. The Aztecs continued engineering awe prompting hydraulic systems and had many skills and a great understanding of medicine.

  • Period: 1450 to

    Age of Exploration.

    This was the period in which European ships set off and searched all around the world for new trading routes and potential trade partners due to the great deal of capitalism in Europe. During this time, Europeans were able learn more about the Americas and Africa and were even able to learn more about the plant and animal life and even discover things they had never seen.

    Spanish Colonial Empire

    During the Spanish Colonial Empire the Spanish went to the Americas in hopes of spreading Catholicism and gaining riches. Because the spanish were coming to gain wealth and spread the Catholic religion, the gained and spread disease. They exposed the natives to their disease and were exposed to diseases they couldn't combat.

    The Reformation

    The Catholic church was attempting to make changes or "reform" which in Western Europe led to the development of protestant churches. A man named Martin Luther protested and his followers were called the protestants. A lot of people were wanting to remain in the original Catholic religion while others wanted to become Protestant which caused a split in the church.

    Mughal Empire

    During the time of the Mughal Empire they ruled over the majority of Pakistan and India. They were well known for their accomplishments in architecture, during their rule they built the Taj Mahal. After the ruler (Aurangzeb) died the empire began to dissolve when his three sons began to fight. The oldest son won the war.

    Atlantic Slave Trade

    The Atlantic Slave Trade was when slave traders transported people from Africa to enslave in the Americas. These people were exploited and used to harvest crop and complete back breaking work.

    Tokugawa Shogunate

    During the Tokugawa Shogunate period strict social order was enforced as well as a new found enjoyment of art and a new culture. In this time period, samurai were moving into the capital and castle towns. Peasants were forced to participate in jobs that weren't agricultural to ensure that there was a stable income for people in authority. The Tokugawa Shogunate ended once the Meiji Restoration began.

    The Qing Dynasty first came about when they defeated the Ming Dynasty. The Qing Dynasty was the last dynasty of China and were mostly a military society. They created a large army which was what helped allow them to remain in power so long.

    The Enlightenment period was a period in which many new ideas were formed. Philosophy became a big deal and deism was created. God was beginning to be questioned and people started to say that God wasn't in control of everything.

    The American Revolution occurred when the British that had colonized in America rebelled against Great Britain. The British colonists were attempting to gain freedom and independence from Britain and eventually succeeded causing the end of the American Revolution.

    The French Revolution totally eliminated feudalism in Eastern and Central Europe as well as prompted the expansion of ideals of Expansion. The French Revolution began when the revolutionaries charged on Bastille and ended when Napoleon overthrew the government.

    The Haitian Revolution was one of the most successful slave revolts in history. The slave rebellion resulted in the end of slavery in Haiti as well as becoming an inspiration to others including those involved in the Louisiana purchase.

    The Opium Wars were caused by the Chinese attempting to eliminate opium trade. There was illegal exportation of the Opium, predominantly by the British, which was causing disruptions in the economy and socially in China.

    The Tanzimat Reforms were political and economic reforms which were meant to modernize the Ottoman Empire in attempts to save it. The Tanzimat Reforms failed when the non muslim population was exploited and treated as second class.

    Taiping Rebellion

    The Taiping Rebellion was a rebellion against the Manchu Dynasty. The rebellion was formed because of the desire for a new dynasty, the Taiping Dynasty. Many people passed in this rebellion which ultimately lead to the defeat of the Taiping as the Qing Dynasty overthrew them.

    The Meiji Restoration pushed Japan out of their traditional government into a more modernized era. This prompted disagreement and rebellion as there were some wishing to remain traditional while others were wishing to shift into a more Western European lifestyle.

    The Scramble for Africa was quite literally a scramble for territory in Africa. Several countries were fighting for territory and claiming it left and right. While in the eyes of the conquering countries this was a good thing, it most definitely was not good for the natives of Africa. Their tribes were being split which not only meant rivals were in the same territory, but also that families were split apart. This caused fighting among the natives.

    The Berlin Conference was a meeting the European Powers formed to decide and officialize territory claims in Africa. Not only was this meeting created to finalize land claims, it was also formed to discuss trade.
