    Tang and song dynasties

    This time period is often also called the golden age of china. The tang dynasty ruled for 300 years and brought expansion, prosperity, and innovations. It was then overthrown and a great war occured for the next 53 years leading to the song dynasties coming. The song dynasty was just as prosperous as the tang until the mongols invaded.

    Abbasid caliphate

    The abbasid caliphate ruled over the islamic empire during its peak. The first time they ruled was from 750-1258 CE when the mongols caused them to flee egypt. When they did rein though it was the golden age of islam as they brought prosperity and peace with great advances(mathematically, science, medicine. The second time was from 1261-1517 CE where in egypt the abbasid caliphate were still considered the religious leaders of islam in the region.

    Feudalism in Europe

    The main social system during the Middle Ages in which the wealthy held lands from the crown in return for military service and vassals were in turn tenants of the wealthy. While the poor also known as peasants during that time had to live on their Lord's land and give him a homage, labor, and share of the money they made sometime in exchange for military protection.Feudalism was a common form of government during this time.

    The aztecs and incas were located in central and south america before the age of exploration.The aztecs were located in central america and the incas were located in south america.The aztecs first started off in the present day mexico city and the incas in the andes mountains and peru. The two were great empires that ruled the regions for a long time.

    Delhi Sultanate

    Was an islamic empire mainly based in delhi but stretched over lots of india. It was established by central asian islamic turks in what we call pakistan. If you lived in the region and were not muslim you had to pay a head tax called jizya. The sultanate was later succeeded by the mughal empire.

    Mongol Empire

    The Mongol Empire was founded by genghis khan. The mongols were from turkish descent. They were know for warfare and at their peak held the most territory in history. It expanded greatly because of advancements in technology and nomadic warriors.

    The Mali Empire was located in Western Africa. Mali was formed after ghana had fallen. It was an extremely wealthy Empire due to how on one side there was gold and on the other there was salt. They would charge the people that would travel across their land a tax for trading these Goods to one another.

    Yuan Dynasty

    Kublai Khan was the china emperor and one of the greatest in chinese history.He also was the great Khan of the mongol empire.The mongols started moving into china even moving the capital to beijing. They adopted chinese practices and even gave the dynasty chinese name. Lots of blending happened between the two.

    Ottoman Empire

    Sunni Muslim Empire occupying present day North Africa, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and the region commonly called "the Holy Land (Israel, Palestine, Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, etc). The ottoman were seen as a threat to Christianity by the Roman Catholic Church and secular European powers like the Holy Roman Empire, this Empire was also a lucrative trade partner for Europe. The ottoman empire was one of the three gunpowder empires. They even had great advancements in art, science and medicine.

    European Renaissance

    The renaissance was known as a time of rebirth.The people were trying to recreate classic models of ancient greek and rome. The philosophy of humanism even started to emerge. During the time people started to question things such as the church and what they were told.

    Bubonic Plague

    Also know as the black death, the bubonic plague took one of the greatest numbers of lives during that time.People started losing faith in the churches due to how priest would charge money on sacraments. As well the priest were leaving town leaving it up to the average person to fill in their spots. Sinful behavior even increased such as blamming jews and flaggelants.

    The Ming Dynasty succeeded the mongol yuan dynasty. During the ming dynasty china was closed off to foreigners since they were dominantly agricultural based. They even renovated and extended the great wall. They then slowly started moving toward trading with foreigners on trade post.

    Age of Exploration

    The age of exploration was an age of discovery is an important event in the history of the western world.European countries had been looking for new trade routes to distant trading partners in the Far East, such as China , India and Japan. Everyone wanted to speed up the time it took to get goods since it took so long over the silk road. This later even led to christopher columbus finding the new world and the colonization of the new world.

    Atlantic Slave Trade

    The atlantic slave trade started after the discovery of the new world. Portuguese was one of the first to start bringing slaves over from africa to the new world to work on farms such as sugar farms. The people they would bring were either prisoners who were sold to them or people they encountered and forced to get on board. The africans were forced to work and ended up at the bottom of social classes to come.

    Spanish Colonial Empire

    Spain set out to conquer the new world after the Explorer Columbus had found the new world for Spain in 1492. the Spanish conquered the Aztec and begin colonization using the Native Indians to their advantage. The Spanish set up what was known as the encomienda system which was an organized Colonial system similar to the feudal system of Europe. The Spanish had also established and Hacienda system which was large plantations where the natives were pressed into slavery

    Portuguese Trading Post Empire

    Portuguese mariners built the earliest trading -post empire.They captured and built highly fortified outposts around the strategic coastlines of the Indian Ocean. They were able to create a monopoly on Indian Ocean trade, when Powers would have had to pay taxes to Portuguese traders in order to import different foreign products.The Portuguese were equipped with heavy artillery and were able to over power most other craft that they encountered.

    Movement characterized by different persons and religious groups challenging the role and powers of the Catholic Church in Europe. The church was selling indulgences and the people were not fond of it. People such as martin luther challenged the church and its ideas. Religions such as lutheranism, and calvinism emerged from this as well as Henry VIII of England annexing from the church.

    The mughal empire was one of the three gunpowder empires. Was an islamic empire found in india after babur defeated the delhi sultanate. They are known for unifying india under one domain and expanding trade networks.It was also known for its cultural influence and its architectural achievements (most famously, the Taj Mahal).

    Tokugawa Shogunate was the feudal military government of Japan during the Edo period.The Tokugawa Shogunate has characterized modern Japanese history by centralizing the strength of the nation's government and uniting its citizens. The shogunates responsibilities were to make the daimyos spend every other year at Edo Castle to keep them under close supervision and test loyalties. On years they were not at Edo castle, a family relative would be taken hostage to keep them loyal.

    The Qing rulers were of the Manchu culture which conquered China. This was china's last ruling dynasty before they became a nationalist democracy and later a communist nation. They expanded china into central asia through military campaigns and promoted Confucianism, Buddhism, and the civil service exam.There was also even promotion of arts and architecture and new dress standards.

    An academic philosophical movement that advocated the use of reason and logic to study society and government. Important people in this period were Galileo Galilei, Isaac Newton, John Locke, Thomas Hobbes and more. Enlightenment thinking helped give rise to deism, which is the belief that God exists, but does not interact supernaturally with the universe. Also gave birth to the ideas of liberty, progress, toleration, fraternity, constitutional government and separation of church and state.

It turned rural areas in britain and the americas into urban places for manufacturing. Was the start of the idea of mass production as well.     13 North American colonies threw off British rule to establish the sovereign United States of America. They made the declaration of independence which was inspired by enlightenment ideas.

    It tried to totally change the relationship between the rulers and those they governed, and to redefine the essence of political control. The monarchy was no longer viewed as divinely ordained. The people didn't like being taxed for the wars the king was starting so the nobility in return came up with the 3 estates. They wanted to change the taxes, form a national assembly, and create a declaration.

    The Haitian revolution was led by Toussaint l’Overture a former slave. They had succeeded in bringing an end not only to slavery, but also to French rule of the colony. It was the only successful slave revolt in human history. This revolt even led to the end of slavery in other carribean places.

    The Turkish attempts to reform the Ottoman Empire. The purpose was to modernize the Ottoman Empire with new forms of industrialization and western ideals.Mahmud II began the tanzimat reform era. One of the pinnacle achievements of the Tanzimat reforms was the Ottoman Constitution of 1876.

    The first Opium war was from 1839 to 1842 and was fought between britain and china. This war occured due to the chinese trying to supress britain's opium trade to there country . SInce the chinese were so addicted it caused social problems and economic problems.The second war was between 1856 to 1860 and was another war between china and britain.The outcome of both wars was bad for china as they lost both wars and the foreign countries gained commercial privileges and territory in china.

    A revolutionary political and religious revolution, perhaps the most critical occurrence in China in the 19th century. It was a 14 year war and took 20 million lives.The rebellion began under the leadership of Hong Xiuquan who had failed the civil service exam and believed he was jesus's little brother. He thought he was sent to reform china. The war was between Manchu-led Qing dynasty and the Hakka-led Taiping Heavenly Kingdom.

    The Sepoy Mutiny was a violent uprising against british rule. It was the first outbreak for independence from british rule. It failed due to Lack of national support, lack of leadership, and shortage of weapons and finance. Some indians did not agree with these revolts though and didn't partake in them.

    The scramble for Africa was the conquest, annexation, partition and colonization of African territories by European powers in a brief period known as New Imperialism. The european motives for doing this were raw materials and new trading post. This was possible due to technological advancements in boats. Since so many people wanted raw materials and new trading post they partitioned it.

    The berlin conference was a series of meetings held by european powers. At the meetings they were trying to decide how to partition africa. Since they all wanted it for New imperialism they held these meetings. The meetings resulted in the dividing of the african lands without caring for religions or break up of groups.
